Remembrance Day
Remembrance Day is a time where we gather to remember all of the people who died in war. Some of the wars include World War Two, The Falklands War, The Gulf War and conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. On this day there are normally ceremonies at local war memorials all across the country and abroad. The royal family and top politicians gather at The Cenotaph in Whitehall, London for one of the largest services. The team at Viner’s on the Hill will be paying our respects in joining in with the ceremonies and the 2 Minute silence.
At our premise in West Malling we are going to be setting up a window display to mark the event and pay our respects. We will be holding a two minute silence to pay our respects to those that died at war.
Here is a poem by John McCrae called ‘In Flanders Fields’.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
WE SHALL NOT SLEEP,
THOUGH POPPIES GROW
IN FLANDERS FIELDS.
